What is covid-19?
COVID-19, a disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 enveloped virus, was first identified in December 2019 and has rapidly evolved into a global pandemic.
Common symptoms of those affected include fever, cough, and shortness of breath, with a portion of those infected experiencing severe symptoms requiring hospitalisation, oxygen therapy, and even ICU admission for mechanical ventilation.
COVID-19 SURFACE TRANSMISSION
Research shows that COVID-19 can remain infectious for up to 72 hours on hard surfaces such as plastic and stainless steel, with surface transmission being a major concern in the spread of the disease. Through a simple mechanism such as an infected person coughing or touching their face, the virus can be passed onto a frequently touch surface which then may be unknowingly picked up, by someone coming into contact with that surface.
